Salah ad-Din al-Ayubi (Salahudin al Ayubi or Saladin)
Background: Salah ad-Din, known in the West as Saladin, was a 12th-century military leader and the first sultan of Egypt and Syria.

Role: Salah ad-Din is renowned for his recapture of Jerusalem in 1187, including Al-Aqsa Mosque, from the Crusaders. His chivalrous conduct during the reconquest, including the signing of the Treaty of Ramla, demonstrated respect for religious freedom.
